We now have a wiki. It should be accessible to everyone (but you need special permission to edit it.)

The wiki is intended to be used as an organised dump for character bios, descriptions, information about the universe, etc.

This means that the Blog will now to used infrequently (as if anyone was reading it anyway).

DRAMATIS PERSONAE: Access

Possibly the least outgoing member of the exiles aboard the Kali-Ma is a man who refers to himself as Access. Very little is known of this quiet, cyber-headed fellow, even by the authorities who placed him on the ship in the first place.

Access was arrested after police attempted to check his personal details when he became a witness in a bank robbery. Although most of the details required for daily life were present they could find no long term records of his existance, fingerprint, retina pattern, DNA, all standard forms of solid identification used regularly among the worlds of the Alliance Government, were not registered to any known person. How he proceeded from this discovery of his status as an unregistered citizen to his arrival on the Kali-Ma he has thus far declined to make clear, all he has told of his treatment is that his former body, almost entirely cyberised, has been replaced by a clone, and most of the modifications which resided in his head have been stripped. All that remains of Access' old cybernetics are those portions too closely bonded with his brain that they cannot be safely removed.

Although he has been stripped of much of his former self Access remains a skilled hacker, and is quite proud of his electronic skills. His pride in his abilities is often not expressed in words however, Access tends to be rather introverted in the flesh. Displays of pride are generally restricted to casually performing difficult tasks in a public manner, allowing others to observe first hand, even if they do not appreciate his achievements. The hacker is fair and unbiased in his dealings with others, treating everyone equally and without prejudice. Always, however, he acts with a certain detachment from those around him, seeing the world as being a single player experience, and everyone around him to be merely another Non-Player Character, excepting perhaps the sapient AI, who he firmly, if quietly, believes have awakened somewhere on the internet.

DRAMATIS PERSONAE: Leo Caine

Leo Caine had always been a bit peculiar; obsessive, impulsive and very suspicious of anyone asking about his work and personal life. At a young age these traits showed themselves in strange ways; obsessively repeating activities until he had mastered them completely and a refusal to play with anyone else.

His parents worried, but as he grew older his tendencies seemed to grow less and soon they put them out of mind. He did well at anything he put his mind too, not because of great intelligence or skill, but because of his unrelenting urge to try until he succeeded.

He finished schooling with top grades, and with no urge to start a specific career he joined the military. A few months of training proved he wasn’t suited to standard combat situations, his suspicion of even his team members causing him to attempt to operate alone and complete the training exercises by himself. The military believed he still held potential and sent him to work in weapons research and development.

The job proved to be exactly what Leo wanted, the careful calculations and endless testing appealing to his obsessive nature. Several years of weapons development passed and Leo was promoted in rank and put in charge of increasingly large and important development projects and he soon gained a reputation for excellent weapon design and manufacturing, his endless testing stamping out defects and inefficient components.

His streak of good fortune was not too last. As more and more people became interested in his work and questioned him about his techniques his suspicion and paranoia increased. Soon he would only work alone and refused contact with anyone else.

Dark suspicions crowded his mind, the military wanted his secrets, they wanted his weapons, they wanted his ideas, they were always watching him and they couldn’t be trusted. Eventually his paranoia climaxed and he broke into secured military data banks using weapons of his own invention to bypass and disable the security, intent on finding out why they wanted him.

Before he could get the information he wanted a fast response military force descended upon him and he was instantly detained. Such a valuable mind couldn’t be wasted, so he was sent to the Kali-Ma, where he wouldn’t be able to cause any trouble, and from where they could easily find and use him when he was deemed sane enough.

Very suspicious of anyone he doesn’t know, Leo is a skilled weapons-maker, and naturally a practised shot with both E-Mag and Laser weaponry as he primarily tests the weapons he makes himself.

DRAMATIS PERSONAE: Armall "Mal" Barcley

Aremall, or "Mal" as he is more commonly known is an is a smuggler, ex-soldier, and ex-con. He was found by the anarchists of the Kali-Ma as a prisoner on a mining station after he was wrongfully accused for several accounts of Murder and Theft, but then imprisoned for cursing at the Judge, Jury and Guards at his court hearing ("Take that, you Frakking frakkers! Not frakking guilty! Boo-Yah!"), and one count of public nudity.

His stint in the Military made him a good leader and an almost perfect shot with E-Mag weaponry, with his time as a smuggler perfecting his draw and reflexes, making him a force to be reckoned with in a gunfight. With a quick tongue and an extremely high sense of pride, Mal made an excellent Trader, but often ran into a bit of trouble with the alliance for smuggling charges, some of which he talked himself out of, some he shot himself out of. During his time in prison, Mal gained almost perfect peripheral vision, and nothing fazes him any more; not even the most dire of circumstances. Another fan of the social drink, Mal keeps a mock holster for his most prizedpossession, a Pistol shaped Hip-Flask.

Characterised by his Brown Coat and Fast tongue, Mal is the merchant who can go into the most conservative trading house on any Alliance planet and get anything for any price, and then some.

The Alliance

A loose alliance of planetary governments. Believed by many to be at least corrupt, there are some consipiracy theorists that believe the alliance is controlled by a behind the scenes shadow government. As the inadeqacies of the current government are made increasingly apparent, it gives religious, political, and other assorted groups the chance to strike out and seize power, even with the threat of a superior Alliance military threatening to tare them apart.

DRAMATIS PERSONA: Ducos "Duke Sedim" Vocis

Known as "Duke" or "Duke Sedim" to anyone he can convince to call him as such, Ducos Vocis spent most of his working life being hired by special interest groups, committee members and worker's unions to handle negotiations and lobbying campaigns. He has honed his skills of communication and persuasion to an art and has always relied upon his charm to get by.

Eventually he got tired of helping end labour strikes and push through local legislation and tried to move higher up in the world. Becoming more of a political con-man than lobbyist he started to prey upon the gullibility of politicians, but only after acquiring a semi-legal biomod allowing him to adjust the details of his face with enough depth and precision to fool a retina scanner.

By impersonating low level aides and clerks he managed to get himself into a position where he hoped he could gain leverage upon a member of the Council. Instead he found evidence of various conspiracies and a shadow government masterminding them. Before he could do anything with the information he was arrested and informed that he would be spending an indefinite amount of time in a mining facility. Using what little political capital he had and more than a little luck he managed to talk his way out of it and onto the Kali-Ma.

As well as being able to talk his way out of most situations and having experience in impersonating others Duke has long been practicing his skills in quickly drawing and hurling balanced blades, in preparation for the possibility that one day words just might fail him.

DRAMATIS PERSONA: Wash 'Buck' Buckman

Wash "Buck" Buckman is an ex-Navy fighter pilot. He joined the navy at the age of 17, and quickly rose through the ranks, attaining the rank of Captain at 25. He distinguished himself as a first-rate pilot, unmatched in the simulator, or in the cockpit, during war games or war. In short, he was a natural. This lead to a zealous overconfidence in his abilities both in and out of the cockpit. To this day, he thinks he's the very best at everything.

So it was that he became squadron leader, operating of the Navy dry dock at Onkkimi C III, mission: guard the system's Stargates from pirate raids. This he did without equal, quickly racking up the number of kills on the squadron score-board in the officers club. His score was 12 after 3 raids. The next best score was 5. The squadron was 20 in number.

Then one day Buck was stopped by the bartender at the officers club. He told him, in no uncertain terms, that something odd was going on with the pirate raids. When Buck tried to get more information out of him (threats were involved), the bartender said he had evidence that the raids were staged by the Alliance Government. He didn't know exactly why, or which members were responsible in particular (if this was just a couple of representatives, and not the whole system), but he said that a Pirate Raid was due tomorrow. He didn't give much information about his sources, just said that they were reliable comms, from sources inside the government.

Wash had no choice but to report the bartender. He dissappeard. But he knew that if a raid happenned tommorow, it would mean that the source would have been correct, at least partially.

He was getting breakfast when the alarm sounded: a pirate raid incoming. He knew it meant the bartender was telling the truth, but he had no choice but to suit up, and hop in the cockpit.

After that day, however, his faith in the Alliance began to waver. He needed to know more: he sent out feelers into anything resembling an underground movement. He asked questions, too many questions. Soon governmment goons where looking into his every move, and then one day he was beaten up outside the officers club, hand-cuffed, and taken away.

When he woke up he was on a transport on the way to the Kali-Ma.

DRAMATIS PERSONA: Dr. Lucius 'Ark' Arkensalt

A widely known Theoretical Physicist with a knack for pulling impossibly possible theories out of his posterior, Dr Arkensalt (Or Dr. Ark, as he is sometimes referred) was recently ‘assigned’ to the engineering team of the Kali-Ma after he made a rather embarrassing press release insulting the Alliance’s policies on FTL travel (embarrassing for the Alliance, not himself).

A scientific prodigy, Lucius is well versed in many different fields of science and engineering, and holds a high degree of confidence in his abilities, to the degree that others may dub him overconfident and occasionally snide. He also has a rather protective attitude towards the Kali-Ma, considering he designed a considerably large portion of the ship.

Overall, Dr Arkensalt is a scientific genius and vital part of the crew, even if he spends most of his time locked in the control room flying and controlling most of the ship.
